If You Encounter ICE

This is general public legal information. It is not legal advice. Source: ACLU. If arrested, contact a lawyer immediately.

01
You have the right to remain silent.
You do not have to answer questions about your immigration status, where you were born, or how you entered the country. Say: "I am exercising my right to remain silent."
02
You do not have to open your door.
ICE cannot enter your home without a warrant signed by a judge. Ask to see the warrant through the window or under the door. A deportation order is NOT a warrant.
03
You have the right to an attorney.
Say: "I want to speak with a lawyer." You have the right to contact your consulate if you are not a US citizen. Do not sign anything without speaking to a lawyer first.
04
Do not run or resist.
Even if you believe your rights are being violated, do not physically resist. Clearly state your rights verbally. Document everything you can remember afterward.
05
You can record police in public.
In Utah, you have the right to record law enforcement performing their duties in public. Do not interfere with their actions. Stay at a safe distance.
06
If someone is arrested, get information.
Note the officer's name and badge number, agency, and location. Write down everything immediately. Contact the National Lawyers Guild or ACLU.

Help Us Build the Mobile Support Bus

When people are released from ICE detention, they are often dropped off with nothing β€” no phone, no way to reach family, no warm clothing, no food, no money, no transportation. Sometimes in the middle of the night, with no notice sent to their families.

We're converting a 40-foot school bus into a mobile support station β€” phone charging, hot meals, clean clothing, medical supplies, internet, and documentation cameras. Every dollar goes directly into the build. No overhead, no salaries.
